After a relaxing sauna, bar food and G&T last night, we had mapped out the day, decided which pictures we’ll be used for our rally roadbook we also got early on the road this morning, leaving at 8am. We would like to accomplish a lot today, starting with getting to the Blue Wonder in Dresden: Loschwitz Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge over the river Elbe in Dresden the capital of Saxony in Germany. It connects the city districts of Blasewitz and Loschwitz, two affluent residential areas, which around 1900 were amongst the most expensive in Europe.
Now we are talking a bit detour for extra points AND seeing something none of us has visited before. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, also called the Elbe Sandstone Highlands is a mountain range straddling the border between the state of Saxony in southeastern Germany and the North Bohemian region of the Czech Republic, with about three-quarters of the area lying on the German side. Given Corona rules, we can’t do a Czech stop for a beer though.. damn.
The next stop is Oberwiesenthal a resort town in Germany’s Ore Mountains, near the Czech Republic border. This is also an area where the is a lot of local handcrafting and it is an area of former mining.. which allows us to get a picture of miners pushing our car... a task we had to do this week, we came up witha 'creative' idea to show it.. The Fichtelberg Suspension Railway ascends to Fichtelberg peak, with ski runs and views of the surrounding valley. The circular Gabriele-Kohlisch Trail leads through forests to the Black Pond. Nearby is the neo-Gothic Martin Luther Church, built in 1866. We kind of ‘skipped’ it though, just driving up the ‘Fichtelberg’ to get the photo to show the fulfilled task.. running out of time.. the hilly off highroads mean we make 60km an our max and we have way to go
Another SAC meeting point along the road to fulfill special tasks: driving tanks and throwing hand greneades.. we did not do well since we spilled a bit of water that we had in a glas while riding the tank and our grenade throwing was a bit short.
The last 100km and 2 hours to get to Kulmbach.. a town in Franconia with lots of breweries, just the kind of evening we need! No stop for lunch, driving, photo, driving… we need lots of beer!
